Take a look at how story writing/documentation can help to enhance children's play. It reinforced the concept taught and gave the children a way to share their understanding towards the concept taught.
The children folded paper airplanes and watched them fly.
Kai Herng imagined being a pilot who could skilfully manoeuvre his plane to fly past the tree house.
The children folded paper airplanes and flew them across the classroom.
They then altered the size of the wings and the tip of the planes
to compare the planes in flight.
They observed their performance and drew conclusions.
Jing Yi drew characters (coconut and mango trees) to create his number story.
He incorporated art elements such as different type of lines
(scalloped, zig-zag and straight lines), multiple colours and shapes.
After listening to the story on number bond, the children explored the number of ‘fruits’
they needed to place on each ‘tree’ to make up the number 6.
Their learning was made fun when colourful chips were given to represent the ‘fruits’.
