The Nursery 2 and Kindergarten 2 children from PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Keat Hong Blk 353 share with us the benefits of play in various activities.
The children from N2 were playing ‘London Bridge Game’.
The game aims to develop their Social and Emotional Skills, Motor Skills and Music and Movement Skills.
There are two children who acted as the ‘bridge’ (holding hands upward together) and the rest of the children will form a line passing under the bridge. When the song stops, the bridge will fall and trap a child.
The K2 children were engaged in the activity of 'Recreating Human’s Lungs'
Through this activity, the children were able to develop and refine their fine motor skills as they learnt to tie the balloon to the straw using a rubber band. This task wasn’t that easy as the straw isn’t a firm object and that caused the balloon to easily slip out as the children tried to tie these two materials together.
The children were also building on their vocabulary as they used more specific terms such as ‘expand’ or ‘inflate’ to describe what happens when they blow the balloon through the straw. When they saw their creation come to live, the children were quite eager to show it to their friends and together, they explored the effects of the human lung when air is inhaled and exhaled.
